Charles Logan Clare is an award-winning director working across documentary, branded and narrative film.

I’ve always been more interested in why people do things than what they do.

That’s probably why I’m drawn to stories about people under pressure, in transition or trying to prove something to themselves. Not because the situations are extreme, but because pressure has a habit of revealing who someone really is.

Before filmmaking, I spent over a decade in the British Army. Growing up in a working-class immigrant family and later working alongside people from completely different backgrounds shaped the way I see people and story. I think that’s why I’m drawn to projects around identity, belonging and the quieter things people carry underneath the surface.

I came into directing through cinematography, which probably explains why I’m drawn to atmosphere, visual metaphor and texture. I’ve never really been interested in painting B-roll over dialogue. I like films that leave space for people to think and feel something for themselves. The kind of films where you recognise something human in a person you might otherwise have nothing in common with.

I work with brands and clients that value audience trust as much as I value the trust people place in me when they step in front of my camera.

These days I direct documentary, branded and narrative work for clients including Amazon, DAZN, NATO, MoD and the British Army.
And I always leave time for smaller stories because that's where I sharpen my teeth.
